4thAnnual BBQ Challenge
Benefit for the Cunot Food Pantry
GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
1) A reminder that this is a benefit! Don’t take yourself too seriously, we’re here to raise money for our local food pantry and eat some good food!
2) Entry fee is $40.00 to enter beef, pork and/or chicken. You will be only charged $40.00 to you enter one or all three categories. All of the entry fees go directly to Cunot Food Pantry.
3) The teams will be allowed to prep the offerings at home, or on site. All meats must be stored in separate containers and held at appropriate food safe temperatures at all times.
4) Meat can (and should!) be seasoned and/or marinated.
5) Don’t worry about drinks for the public, the store will make available beer as well as non-alcoholic drinks and water.
6) Gas, charcoal, wood, or cooking pellets only! Remember: fires must be contained.
7) After cooking, ash cans will be provided to dispose of all ash.
8) Trash cans will be provided. Please keep your area clean.
9) All grill fires must be contained. Use charcoal starter (chimney) or start fire in cooker.
10) Some water will be provided (by hose) and ice is available for purchase.
11) NO PETS! Don’t torture your dog with all that meat.
12) Set up can start Friday anytime. Last year, there were people “cooking” through Friday night. We are not responsible for items left unattended. Feel free to come set up your tent, or sleep wherever, listen to some music and enjoy yourself!
13) Failure to follow our rules may cause your team to be disqualified. We want everyone to have FUN and be SAFE.
14) Everyone must have fun or go home. Bad attitudes may end up in the lake.
15) We do not have any electrical hookups, so please bring a quiet generator if you need one! (There will be places to charge a phone if needed, etc, just not to power everyone in the venue)
There will be two judgings. One is the public vote; the other is the judged vote.
Public Vote
a. We will have for sale (by the Cunot Food Pantry), $5 tasting cups. These will be 2oz portion cups for the public to try a taste of everyone’s cooking.
b. Doors open at 1:00 pm, and tasting cups go on sale.
c. The public will also get a scorecard with each contestant listed.
d. We ask that you have enough to provide a simple taste for the public- the 2oz cups were chosen for ease of use, you do not need to give every person 2oz of meat. I don’t think they’d make it through the line.
e. You CAN offer your food for sale! It will be up to you to provide plates/napkins/condiments/etc. Please also be equipped with change for people as the store will be unable to be the bank for 20 contestants. There are no restrictions on the prices you want to charge.
f. Your entry fee and the commitment to provide samples is a direct donation to the Cunot Food Pantry, and we appreciate the support!
Judges’ Vote
a. You’ll provide a sample large enough for 5 judges to try, in a Styrofoam container (provided) at turn-in time (TBD). This will be marked with a number for anonymity.
b. Turn in times will be posted. Cooks will have a 10-minute window to assemble their entries. Make sure the judges have hot food to judge!
c. Awards will be given to the top 3 in the meat categories. The “GRAND CHAMPION” award is decided by the public.
d. Decisions by the judges are final. Bri will be available to go over the rules and answer any questions that you may have. All cooks will follow the same rules.
